RE: trailer tire wear issues

We got back from our first trip out after the alignment.
Oh, what a difference it made. All tires are now wearing on their faces as they should.
I had to find a special alignment shop to do this as the car place and the trailer place wouldn't touch it.

RE: 06V23J: Specific Kind of Diesel Needed???

What you say may be entirely true for your area. I think all that Texan is trying to say is that you can't extrapolate your regional experiences to cover the whole country. I don't think he's saying that you're intentionally lying, just that your information may not be completely accurate for all readers in all areas. Absolutely, I under stand that concept. They stated unequivocally that I was spreading inaccurate falsehoods and lies and when I asked what they got belligerent. We haven't had any problem getting fuel for the new truck, in our travels, period.
After I realized that my travels and experiences are irrelevant, I wanted to see if the texan was capable of tact without badgering and bullying. I see they are incapable of any form of useful dialog and my original character assessment was correct. When they attempted to report facts, from their perspective, they used internet gossip as gospel. From the internet gossip I have seen, and my own experience, LSD has the same effect as winter fuel on MPG for those of us with older trucks. Additionally, for those who can still get it, and have older trucks, they covet the availability.

RE: 06V23J: Specific Kind of Diesel Needed???

I don't think I'd be too concerned now, most stations do not carry lsd anymore. We travel with the SIL and her hubby and they have no problems finding ulsd for their ulsd 2010 compliant truck. Some areas, after Katrina had a waiver but that should be not an issue in most parts of the country. Just stay away from the red stuff and you will be fine. Please do not put out bad information such as this. There are many parts of the US where you will NOT find ULSD, unless you hunt for it and many truck stops still dispense both LSD and ULSD. The retail industry is NOT required to complete the switch over until 12/2010, except in California and Canada.Don't be a troll. PM me if you have a problem.
What is bad information about my experiences? You will be hard pressed to find LSD any place I have traveled in the last 1.5-2years or more.
Again, don't be a troll. PM me if you have a problem. Better yet, I don't care what your issue is, get a therapist or go camping. You put false or incomplete information on the net, I will call you on it, so people realize what you said was not necessarily the truth. Look up the correct information before posting. Have a good day. A PM corrects nothing. From where I stand you are the one with the false information. I know a couple guys who drive tankers and they haven't even seen LSD in the last year or more. So far all you have done is say I lie.

RE: Oregon Caves

The deal is, there really is no place to turn a trailer around. Parking is tight. With a 22' C you should be ok, heck my pickup is almost that long.

trailer tire wear issues

We just got home from a short trip. When we got to the CG the DW was putting the chocks in and noticed the rear tire had the steel belt showing on the inside. The outer part and the face with the tread looked almost new. This is the second time this has happened to the rear axle only, inside of the tires and within 5,000 miles. I went to a trailer place today and the guy said a spindle may be bent or an the axle may be bent.
Does anyone have similar experiences or specific knowledge of this problem?

RE: Ideas to make RV's more efficient. (on target, no rants)

I averate 44 to 47 mpg without running the air and with the windows open. That is horrid, so sad. The DW drives a VW Jetta TDI that gets 47+hwy with the air on.
I believe we as RVers need to demand more. In general, if the computer industry had advanced at the same rate as Detroit and other automotive centers. We would still be using calculators the size of typewriters, that is just bigger than a toaster oven for you youngsters.
Doesn't sound so "horrid" to me. With the difference in price between gas and diesel, his civic is doing just as well as your jetta tdi on a cents per mile scale. The jetta is burning BioD.
The hybird is supposed to be earth friendly, clean burning and more mpg. The hybird is all those things when compared with standard gas motors, not so much when you consider particulate matter out the pipe compared to the jetta burning biodiesel.
Shhhhh... don't tell anybody, the jetta is cleaner.
My main point was, is that the best the auto industry can come up with in 90+ years? Horrid, yes. Unacceptable, yes.
go have a horse power war...

RE: Ideas to make RV's more efficient. (on target, no rants)

I agree; plus people need to lose the attitude that I bought the truck to tow not get good MPG. Then maybe the OEM's might concentrate on that aspect more than the HP wars.If by people you mean automotive engineers, then I agree. I did buy my truck to tow, there is no reason it shouldn't get good mpg doing it.
When I took delivery of my truck it had 215hp at the flywheel. It has about 304 at the rear wheels now. If anything, I'm getting better mpg and lower emissions due to my modifications. Every so often I get an idea and try to squeeze a little more mpg out of my baby, so far things are all going in the right direction.

RE: Crater Lake

We are headed up that way last week of August and are looking for suggestions for camping either inside or outside of the park and along our route. I notice that Manzana CG is still only partially open due to snow. We'll be going up from the south east from Klamath area then continuing through the park north to hwy 58 and to the Eugene/Springfield area. From there we may head up to Hillsboro and the area west of Portland or out to the coast before heading back to CA
So any suggestions for places to stop along the way (or even a better route) would be much appreciated.
We are in a Lance truck camper and aren't really concerned about hookups
It sounds like you have a good plan. The Mazamma CG can get full and has some very tight spots, a TC is probably best. They put their bear boxes right where most want to put the RVs, go figure.

Your route plan is sounds good to me, with the exception of PDX (i'm not a portland fan).

RE: Newbie: How do I remove the races?

The race has an interference fit. They are designed so they will not spin in the hub, the bearings are designed to do that job. With your diligence & periodic cleaning you may never have to mess with them.

RE: Brake issues

From your description it sounds like the unit is not "seeing" the controller. I would check all connections to see if they are clean and making contact. Does the brake controller have any power, is the fuse good?

RE: Cool!, hurry up before diesel prices kill it

while this is not a truck I would be interested in purchasing... I like the idea of more folks being introduced to diesel benefits.
My love with Diesel started when I bought an old 6.2l silverado and it got 14 with the TC on at 70mph on the highway. It also averaged about 19 on the highway unloaded. That truck was my wheelbarrow, my TC transport, my DD and a good all around pickup.
We have a 2002 Jetta TDI while the engine is small, compared to other cars of the time, it has plenty of poop to get the job done. Yes, there is some turbo lag. But after a while you learn to deal with it.
I recently saw a new GMC Dmax and IMO it looks much better than the last body design.

RE: Most agressive breed of dogs

My stepson has a Chihuahua mix, I got tired of the constant yapping while we were trying to talk. I lunged at it and growled, about a week later it was quarantined by the county for biting someone. It is one aggressive little pooper. I will not go to visit them any longer, they will come to my house without that dog for now.
